Morgan Drexen Helps American Red Cross Relieve Summer Blood Shortage

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile Gears up for Morgan Drexen’s Blood Drive

Morgan Drexen employees were thrilled to help the American Red Cross of Orange County and host a blood drive where employees had the opportunity to donate blood and help save lives.

According to the American Red Cross donations are down more than 10 percent across the country this summer. They are constantly in need and encourage everyone to help if they can.

A remarkable 45 employees volunteered to donate blood on Friday, July 20th, with many returning and first-time donors as well.

“I want to help others, so if by donating blood could help save a life or even lives, I’m glad to help,” said Deanna Bush a Processing Supervisor at Morgan Drexen.

There was such a great response from employees that in order to accommodate everyone a larger bloodmobile had to be requested.

“It was first time participating in a blood drive, so I was a little nervous in the beginning,” said Kevin Ewing a Law Firm Liaison Specialist. “Once I was waiting in line there was no turning back for me.”

“It doesn’t hurt as bad as you think,” said Resolution Officer Peter Ruacho. “I would absolutely recommend other people to donate if they can.”

The American Red Cross offered all participants two tickets to the Laugh Factory, a free t-shirt, tickets to a Chivas soccer game and more.

“The incentives were nice, but I would have done it for free,” said Michael Dowling a Jr. Processor. “I will definitely do it again if they ask.”

Although many worry about the process, a lot of people don’t realize that a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. Every donation counts.

“It was much better than I expected. Everyone was very friendly and helpful in calming my nerves,” said Ewing. “I definitely will be donating again.”

“What a fantastic day at the Morgan Drexen blood drive,” said Suzanne Jennings Account Manager at American Red Cross of Orange County. “We collected 41 units of blood, which is fantastic! Each unit can help up to three people, so your company has potentially saved 123 lives!”

Morgan Drexen Blood Drive

Earlier this year, Morgan Drexen coordinated an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the corporate headquarters in Costa Mesa, California.

52 Morgan Drexen employees and executives participated in the blood drive with many first time donors overcoming fears to give back to community in the most valuable way possible. One donation from each participant will save 3 lives and help the non-profit organization during the months when donations are substantially lower.

Southern California is one of the areas with the fewest donations and blood supply can drop drastically low. The Morgan Drexen community was eager to help out the local area where all donations from the day would be delivered to neighboring hospitals. Every two seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion and many employees were personally affected from such a need and wanted to give the gift of life during the 2011 holiday season.
